]]> Twitch superstar and OfflineTV streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys isn’t buying the apology issued by Shane Dawson, who claims he was “cancelled” after he received backlash over controversial comments from his past resurfaced online back in 2020.

Dawson took a hiatus that lasted all the way until his return on October 7th.

Still, Pokimane issued her criticism of Dawson’s apology, calling it “disingenuous“.

“Like, if you really care about something, like, ‘hey I want to come back” she said during a recent live stream (h/t Dexerto). I want to seriously apologize and I want people to know how aware I am of the sh**ty things that I did’… When someone’s serious they look like they feel bad, they say at lengths what they did wrong. That’s how you really do it.”

“Whereas if someone is like, “Sorry you feel that way. If you hate me you’re gonna hate me, and omg my cat’s so cute!” If someone apologized like that, you would be like, ‘What?!’… It just wouldn’t feel right,” she said.

“The way he summarized it, I felt kind of sucked, where he was like “All these clips came out, and that was bad. And if I talk about how I really feel about it, then people will say I just want sympathy.” … But then it’s like, maybe you haven’t thought about what you did long enough.”

“All the things he listed, none of them were like, “I felt bad about what I’ve done. And like I wanted to give people time and space.” People need time to get over, and you need to showcase you’ve changed,” she continued.

“If you’re going to go off the internet for like two years, specifically because of you being canceled. When you come back and it’s your first video back, I think you need to acknowledge what you did. And in acknowledging what you’ve done wrong, you need to say that you’re sorry, to showcase that you’re genuinely sorry.”

“You need to go about things the way you genuinely feel. If you feel you are sorry, say you’re sorry. But you also have to accept that if you choose not to apologize and some people think that makes you disingenuous then so be it. But the vibes that I get is that he’s unsure.”

As we see on a number of social platforms, arguments can escalate and this is no different in the world of online streaming. Similar to a sports talk app, Twitch’s live chat feature can open a world of dialogue and interactions that may not always be the best.

]]> Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys wasn’t playing around when it came to the conduct of a viewer in one of her recent twitch streams, going as far as to ban them from her channel over their comments during the live stream.

Following the Activision-Blizzard lawsuit and with the disturbing new interview with Sweet Anita highlighting the conduct and constant sexual harassment that female streamers and content creators have to put up with in the industry, Pokimane brought up the recent tweets in response to former professional Hearthstone player Rumay ‘Hafu’ Wang, who claimed that Blizzard let let a WoW compete under a name that targeted her back in 2008.

One particular viewer was in chat and received a ban, only to donate moments later and threaten to unsubscribe from Pokimane’s channel if she did not lift the ban. Pokimane took aim at the viewer after discovering some of his disturbing comments in her chat.

“You are exactly the kind of person we don’t want in my community or in the greater gaming community at all,” Pokimane said, during the live stream on July 29th (h/t Dexerto). “It is not just a joke to call someone who’s underage hot and justify the fact that people are saying they were going to sexually assault them. Also, it’s not okay to, instead of apologizing for your shi**y comments, to try to flip it and call me or my mods boring for ‘not getting the joke.’ You are so oblivious to your own problems, it’s painful.”

“You think I give a f**k about your $2 sub? You think that’s going to make me think that what you’re saying is ok?” she continued. “I hope you get banned off this whole platform my guy.”

It’s yet another disturbing example of how the industry and culture is for a number of women streamers, gamers, pro players and content creators, a trend that needs to stop but seems to be continuously excused by big brands and companies.

]]> Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys is one of the most popular female streamers and content creators in the industry, so she knows a thing or two about interacting with fans. But now, the superstar Twitch streamer is issuing a warning to fans following the Tommyinnit and KSI controversy.

Tommyinnit is the 16-year old Minecraft streamer that has experienced an incredible rise on Twitch, which earned him a collaboration video with Brittish rapper KSI, and commented that KSI was refraining from using profanity because of Dream fans, which caused a lot out backlash.

Tommyinnit eventually issued an apology for the comments, which has led to Pokimane discussing the topic in a weekend stream, suggesting that Twitter has become a place where people are incredibly “attached” to the comments and behavior of others.

“Because in the real world there are some people that don’t give a f%ck what you want, don’t give a f%ck what you need, don’t give a f%ck what you think about what they’re thinking or what they’re saying, or what they’re doing” Pokimane said during the stream.

“And so, I think if you can learn to not be so attached to how other people are acting, that is like a life necessity” she continued. “I have found that being on Twitter makes me care way too much what other people are saying or doing. Like, It makes me feel like I need to run around and correct all the dumbas*es in the world.”

“Can you educate people? For sure. But I think it’s way more worthwhile to do that with people in your real life.”

]]> Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys is easily the biggest, most popular, and most successful female streamers on the Twitch platform, and has received harassment from crazed fans.

Pokimane posted a video on YouTube last month exposing some of the messages she has received. Pokimane has received death threats as well as, what she calls, “gross” messages.

“Prior to looking at unbanned forms, I have my mods go through them and kind of remove the ones that are really bad. But today, I’m going to YOLO and just show you guys everything,” Pokimane said (h/t Dexerto).

“In the past, it was just me reading this day in and day out. But at least now, I can turn it into content, and we can all laugh a little bit. So, at least I finally get something out of it,” she continued.

“The bottom line is… please just stop. I’m going to keep banning you,” Pokimane pleaded. “Some of these really gross me out, and I don’t want to have to read these when I’m trying to play games with my fans. Thankfully my mods delete these most of the time.”

“I need to deny [the unban requests], but that doesn’t mean you can’t change [and] that doesn’t mean you can’t chat in my stream. It just means you’re going to need to make a new account,” Pokimane added.

Pokimane responded to the lockdown on her official Twitter page: “my twitter account got locked because i tweeted “i love girls” and did a tiktok to “say so”.. lol”

Apparently, Pokimane was able to unlock her account after she reviewed Twitter’s Copyright Policy, and it is now working fine.

However, this is proof that social platforms are handling DMCA strikes as well, and it’s not just excusive to streaming platforms such as Twitch, so content creators need to be aware of what they post, and that it stays in line with TOS and guidelines.

]]> Twitch superstar streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys is making a big change to her streams on twitch moving forward by putting a “donation cap” via third-party app Streamlabs.

Pokimane announced the change on her Twitter page, detailing that a donation cap of $5 is now in place while adding — “”Thank you for supporting me to the point where I consider anything more than that unnecessary,” she stated. “To anyone that was more generous- please support growing channels, charities, and treat yourselves.”

It’s worth noting that the the donation cap seems to be specific to Pokimane, at this time, and is not currently available for all streamers using Streamlabs.

]]> Popular twitch streamer Pokimane is receiving backlash for what many are claiming is a “cash grab” when she jumped in on the trend of VTubing, and ran one of her most recent Twitch streams, following her return from a hiatus, under the guise of an animated digital avatar.

Vtube has content creators depict their likeness by means of a digital avatar, which is also designed in the fashion of anime characters, which adds a level of privacy, and anonymity, to their streams that Twitch does not afford it’s streamers.

Already one of the most successful streamers on Twitch, Pokimane is jumping in on the rise of VTuve, where content creators are finding financial success.

 

Needless to say, her decision did not sit well with a number of content creators within the VTube community.

 

 

However, many also so no issue with Pokimane’s decision.

]]> Twitch has levied a permanent suspension on LeafyIsHere who is known for his conduct of picking on other streamers, according to Esports consultant and journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau.

According to Kotaku, Leafy was banned permanently from Youtube last month for repeatedly violating the company’s harassment policies after a series of videos about Twitch streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys which kicked off a campaign on social media around her significant other.

Leafy also had issues with YouTuber Ethan “H3H3”.

Now he is off of Twitch as well.

“The safety of our community is our top priority, and we reserve the right to suspend any account for conduct that violates our rules, or that we determine to be inappropriate, harmful, or puts our community at risk,” Twitch said in an email to Kotaku.

Leafy posted the following on his Twitter page on Friday:

]]> One of the most popular twitch channels on the platform, Imane “Pokimane” Anys generates thousands of viewers with each one of her twitch streams which, naturally, helps her build a bigger fan base.

Pokimane has chosen to keep her dating life private from her fan base, which has generated a lot of discussion within the community on how she has handled the topic.

Pokimane addressed the topic of her dating life with a video posted on August 18th, following her announcement of a brief hiatus from streaming and content creation.

Pokimane discusses a number of topics in the video, embedded below, including Video Takedowns, her conduct in the past, among others.

“I personally made the decision, seven years ago, when I got into streaming that I don’t want my personal life to be part of my content” Pokimane stated.  “That’s what I’m going to stick by until I, or whomever I’m dating, at whatever time, decides otherwise.”

“In general relationship stuff is stuff that I don’t like to talk about outright” Pokimane went on.

“Even when I’m single, imagine how many people would care? Then, if I got into a relationship, even more people would be invested in what is going on in my relationship. If I had a relationship, I’d want it to just be between me and that person, and not a million people giving their opinion.”

Pokimane would go on to explain that this decision “creates a healthier divide between my work life and my personal life, which is an area where the lines are already pretty blurred”

She then addressed criticism that she keeps her dating status private in a decision based on donations, and weighing how disclosing a relationship would ultimately impact her donations negatively

“I understand some people want to relate this to donations, but, you could also argue one could make a lot of money by publicizing a relationship or making content out of it” she explained.

“Neither of these are wrong. I just personally feel that everyone has a right to privacy. I personally want to experience my relationships without the scrutiny of an online audience.”
